So that happened!

It’s Ilona Andrews vs. Ilona Andrews in the final of the 2015 DABWAHA. I am now imagining all her characters trash talking each other. Oh, that would be funny. I bet Kate Daniels is a terrific at it.

We also have a winner for the Final Four – Kanoko again! Congratulations, Kanoko! You’ve won a $100 gift certificate to AllRomance, courtesy of!

And now, it’s time for the championship, which will take place 10am ET to 10pm ET tomorrow, 6 April 2015.

So while this is a strange and silly final, everyone is still eligible for the random bracket prizes. Get ready for a battle of the ages, with Ilona Andrews battling herself for the DABWAHA Championship!

Second Chance Tournament 2015!

It’s time for the Second Chance Tournament!

Is your bracket destroyed? Did your picks go awry? Do you find yourself tied for 500th place and full of despair? Weep no more, bracketeers, because our 2nd Chance Tourney is created just for you.

We start with 16 books instead of 64, so the stakes aren’t as high but the prizes are just as fine.

Go forth and pick new brackets and be hopeful once again.

Please note: you must press the NEW button. This is an entirely new tournament setup.

Also please note: check the list of nicknames, and please do not choose an existing nickname. For folks who have already entered their second chance tourney picks, please double check that the web entries match the email verification. If not, email the verification to Jane and she’ll square it away.

And you can keep up with the tournament results, check your bracket, and your neighbor’s bracket HERE.

A Brief Update for 21 March 2015

Voting carries on as normal! Vote and bribe and celebrate! However, we have a brief note:

Standings in the tournament (as in, where your bracket stands against the others) will not be updated until after 9pm ET, due to Jane being deposed today. Big fun, yes. So vote and have fun for her, k?

Enjoy the tournament! Thank you for making it so enjoyable for us and for everyone!

It’s Bracket Selection Sunday for the 2015 DABWAHA!

DABWAHAAre you ready?! It’s Bracket Selection Sunday for the 2015 DABWAHA.

What does that mean? It means the full slate of nominees has been announced, including the eight books nominated by readers.

And now: the DABWAHA bracket is ready to be filled out.

You have until 3/18/2014 at 12:00/noon ET to enter your picks!

How do you do that?

Easy! You can follow the instructions step by step at the DABWAHA site. The essential steps to enter your bracket:

  1. Click on “New” and enter your nickname. Only the Nickname will show up publicly.
  2. Click on the title of the book you will think will win each match until you have only one book left as your Champion. Note: you are not only trying to predict which book will win, but also which author/fandom/community can best gather votes to back their favorites. Yes, it’s tricky. That’s why it’s fun.
  3. The tie breaker is the number of reader nominations we received. Hint: it is under 1000. Another hint: it is higher than 2.
  4. When you hit submit, you’ll go back to the DABWAHA page – do NOT be alarmed! Also: your entries will not show up immediately. They have to be manually uploaded in batches, so they don’t show immediately. If you don’t see yours within a few hours, please email Jane.

Important note for visually impaired readers: if you’re using a screen reader and having problems with the bracket selection page, please email Sarah and I can help you complete your bracket. I can do over the phone, or we can coordinate a time via Skype, but I want you to be able to participate. Don’t be shy! Contact me, please!

What’s the point of all this?

Fun! Mayhem! The newfound knowledge of connecting your wireless device to all the free WiFi in a three mile radius so you can vote repeatedly!

Also, there’s prizes. OH YES. The prizes have been posted. We have a ton of awesome prizes donated by many splendid individuals including reading devices, gift cards, books, and chocolate. Plus, there are prizes for middle of the road brackets, the worst bracket and for winners of each round. Just by picking a bracket, you’re entered in the tournament.

So what do we do now?

Right now: pick your bracket. Have a look at the books, and ask yourself, What awesome book in each category is most likely to win each round? Then, once you’ve picked your bracket, we begin voting.

Yup. The winner of each round is determined by reader voting. Polls open, and voting commences! There’s vote mongering, trash talking, and compliment wars on all forms of social media during the DABWAHA, too, so there’s a lot of goofy fun to be had.

Here are the Important Links:

It’s DABWAHA 2015 Time!

DABWAHA - an open book with the word DABWAHA below it and yes I made that word up because reasons It’s DABWAHA time! When we tweet and vote monger and compete for prizes and silly fun as we celebrate some of the very best romances of 2014.

What’s a DABWAHA?

The DABWAHA is our annual NCAA-style tournament of books. 64 books are selected in 8 different categories, and readers pick brackets of which books they think will win each round.

The winners of each round are determined by public voting, so it helps your cause to promote the books you want to win each round.

That’s the short explanation of the tournament. You can get the full explanation on our How to Play post or you can ask us! We’re always around during tournament time, so if you don’t understand, comment, tweet or email us, k?

The nomination slate is ready. This year we have eight books in seven categories, and they have all been listed at the DABWAHA site.

New this year: a reader nomination category! Yup, that’s right. Our 2014 categories are Contemporary, Historical, Novella, Series/Category, Paranormal/Fantasy/SciFi,  YA/NA, and Novel with Strong Romantic Elements.

The eighth category will be filled with the top eight books as nominated by you. Yup. You nominate the books you think should be included that aren’t listed right now.

Which books were we wrong to leave off? Fire up your browser and head on over to fill out the form to enter your nominations.

The book nominated can be digital or print, but please, wherever possible, use the ASIN or ISBN number for the PRINT edition to minimize duplicate entries.

PLEASE NOTE! The book MUST have a publication date of 2014. No exceptions, no reprints. No paperback version of 2013 hardcovers.

Want to see the complete schedule? Here it is!

Yes, of course there are prizes! There are prizes for each round of the tournament – whomever has the most perfect bracket after each round wins a prize. If there are multiple perfect brackets, tiebreakers are built into the software (see our FAQ). There are also prizes for the Second Chance Tournament, which opens once most of us (myself included) have busted our brackets irreparably.

Then, at the end, we award random bracket prizes to many different excellent random brackets, plus the much-coveted Wooden Spoon prize for the worst bracket of the entire tournament.

The winning bracket and the author of the winning book each will receive a 16gb WiFi iPad, from the TBR LLC, a joint venture of Smart Bitches Trashy Books LLC, and Dear Author Media Network, LLC. Awww yeah.

Would you like to contribute a prize to the tournament? Awesome! Please fill out this form and let us know what you’d like to offer!

ETA: Forgot something!

The tournament software is not always accessible to visually impaired users who use a screen reader. I don’t know of any tournament software that would work so I apologize. If you are having problems when the tournament software goes live, please contact me and I’ll help you out, k? (I’ll make this announcement again when the software is live).

To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life.

For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake…

But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness…
